Malcom VanAntwerp, Pastor

DES MOINES, Iowa—Malcom VanAntwerp, founding pastor of Munising (Michigan) Baptist Church in 1942, died June 1 at age 97. He was scheduled to be a part of Munising Baptist Church’s 75th anniversary celebration in September.

Malcom attended Moody Bible Institute, where he met his wife, Emily. They married in 1942, after graduating. He completed further education at Bethel College and Seminary and Luther Seminary. In addition to planting Munising Baptist Church, he pastored Galilee Baptist Church in Des Moines from 1970 until retirement in 1984.

Malcolm’s desire to serve and study never diminished. After retiring, he earned a DMin and worked as interim pastor for 15 churches in Iowa.

 

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Emily; his second wife, Banetah; and a daughter, Deborah Coronado.

He is survived by three children, Thomas, Ruth, and Mark; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
