Lucille Riley, Longtime Missionary

CRESTON, Iowa—Lucille Riley, longtime missionary, died on Nov. 11, 2011. She was 83.

Sarah Lucille Riley graduated from Omaha Bible Institute in 1951 after majoring in missions. In 1958 she began serving with Baptist Mid-Missions, primarily ministering to women and children. She worked in Quesnel, British Columbia, Canada, from 1959 to 1967; with North American Indians in Great Falls, Mont., from 1969 to 1982; and with missionaries in Sandy, Utah, reaching Mormons for Christ from 1982 to 1986. She then moved to Tacoma, Wash., to help start an inner-city work, where she remained for seven years.

Lucille returned to Creston, Iowa, in 1997. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Creston, taught Sunday School, and edited missionary letters for the Intercessor, a ministry of Baptist Mid-Missions’ North American Field Council.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, Laura and Frank Riley; two brothers, Kenneth and John; and a nephew, Gordon Riley.

Survivors include a sister, Mary Best; a brother, Earle; 10 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
