WASHINGTON, Ind.—Louis H. Showers IV, a pastor who used his model railroading hobby as a tool to share Christ, died Sept. 20. He was 67.

Louis (MDiv, Grace Theological Seminary) was pastor of Grace Baptist Church, Washington, Indiana, since 2003. He was previously pastor of Fundamental Gospel Church, Marengo, Iowa; Beth-El Bible Church, Surry, New Hampshire; and Park Bible Church, Pennsville, New Jersey.

Louis loved to study God’s Word and share it with others. But “somewhere along the line, God must have made a ‘model railroad gene,’ and when He designed me, He included it in my DNA,” Louis said in his article “Hobby Evangelism,” published in the September/October 2015 Baptist Bulletin.

Louis continued, “In 1 Corinthians 10:31 Paul writes, ‘Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.’ The word whatever speaks of anything an individual might do. It encompasses the totality of the human experience, including a person’s interests and pastimes. The word glory speaks of bringing honor to God. When we combine these two terms, we must conclude that all we do in this life has the potential to glorify God. Add the imperative of the verb do, and we find it is our mandate from God to find ways to glorify Him with every aspect of our being.”

Louis spent his lifetime devoting himself to ministry and preaching the gospel, and, as Louis said in his article, God continually used his model railroading hobby to glorify Him.

Louis is survived by his wife of 42 years, Wanita, and two children, Jason and Meredith.
