miller_inlineMANNING, Iowa—Louis Hudson Miller, a pastor, camp director, and missionary, died Nov. 10. He was 99.

Before serving in ministry, Louis farmed for 10 years near Muscatine, Iowa. During that time, he and his wife, Bernice, whom he had married on Dec. 18, 1940, were members of Walnut Park Baptist Church in Muscatine.

Desiring to serve in full-time ministry, Louis attended Omaha Baptist Bible Institute and was ordained by Calvary Baptist Church, Botna, Iowa, which he started and began pastoring in 1955. He served in Botna until 1957 and then ministered at Floris (Iowa) Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church, Belmond, Iowa; directed Iowa Regular Baptist Camp for seven years; and then once again pastored the Botna congregation, which had by then relocated to Manning, Iowa. In Manning he served from 1975 to 1982.

Calvary Baptist Church in Belmond, where he was pastor from 1962 to 1969, says, “The church life was greatly strengthened under his leadership.”

In 1983 the Millers became associate missionaries for station supply and building with Continental Baptist Missions. From their home base in Manning, they served communities in Illinois, Iowa, New York, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania.

A highlight of Louis’s life was to be named pastor emeritus of Calvary Baptist Church in March 1992, recognizing his faithful service to the church and being in ministry for 40 years.

Louis was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice, on June 10, 2013, and two grandsons.

He is survived by his daughters, Marylin Jean Fowler and Peggy Joan Apperson; six grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
