WOOD RIVER, Ill.—Joyce Ariel Moody, longtime missionary nurse in India, died Oct. 28. She was 92.

Joyce graduated from Alton (Illinois) High School in 1945 and from the Alton Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. After a year working in obstetrics, she attended Moody Bible Institute and worked at a Chicago hospital. Then in 1956 she went to Assam, India, under the auspices of Baptist Mid-Missions. She served as a medical missionary and trained student nurses at Burrows Memorial Hospital until 1981, when all missionaries were required to leave the Assam region. Joyce returned to Alton and her home church, Brown Street Baptist.

Joyce’s first love was the Lord, says Mary Watrous, a fellow member of Brown Street Baptist Church. Jen Bussen, who also knew Joyce from church, describes her as joyful, kind, and gentle.

Joyce is survived by a brother, two sisters, and several nieces and nephews.
