Joseph Chapman, Pastor

SEBRING, Fla.—Joseph Chapman, a retired pastor, died March 10. He was 91.

Joseph was pastor of Highview Avenue Baptist Church, Akron, Ohio (1978–1988); Blessed Hope Baptist Church, Springfield, Ohio (1972–1977); Faith Baptist Church, Rodney, Ohio (1970–1972); First Baptist Church, Gallipolis, Ohio (1965–1970); The Baptist Church of Danbury, Connecticut (1958–1965); Bible Baptist Church, Cortland, New York (1954–1958); and Bible Protestant Church, Bridgeton, New Jersey (1950–1954). He also served on the board of Scioto Hills Baptist Youth Camp in Ohio.

Joseph and his wife, Lucy, served in music ministries in Joe’s pastorates, with both of them singing and with him playing the piano, trombone, baritone, cowbells, and more. Both before and after his retirement from pastoral ministry, he carried on an itinerant ministry of preaching and music in many churches and camps across the country.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Lucy; four children, Judy (Bill) Kirtland, Shirley (Tom) Kurz, David (Linda) Chapman, pastor of Nottingham Baptist Church, Willoughby Hills, Ohio, and Diana (David) Conrad (pastor’s wife at Calvary Baptist Church, Xenia, Ohio); 17 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will take place March 15 at 11 a.m. at Maranatha Village Church, Sebring, Florida, where he was a member.
