James Houston Morrison (1913–2011)

FAIR OAKS, Calif.—James Houston Morrison, Christian youth camp worker, died on March 16, 2011. He was 97.

James, once GARBC layman of the year, grew up attending First Baptist Church, Wilmington, Calif. He served GARBC churches for many years, assisted in church planting in southern California, and served in Christian youth camping beginning in 1936.

He helped at Victory Ranch, Moreno Valley, Calif., since its inception in 1956. He was involved in the 1956 purchase of the property and served on the board of directors. In addition, he spent countless hours working on the buildings and serving as the camp’s cook.

The Ranch board has set up a scholarship fund in James’ name to assist young people with financial needs to attend Victory Ranch’s summer program.

James was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred, in 2007.

James is survived by five sons, a daughter, and 38 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
