George Carapelle (1921–2011)

ZEBULON, N.C.—George Carapelle, U.S. Navy veteran and former pastor, died on Nov. 12, 2011, at age 90.

After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, George became a pastor. He ministered at Faith Baptist Church, Palmer, Mass. (1950–1961); Park Avenue Baptist Church, Binghamton, N.Y. (1961–1970); and Westview Baptist Church Rocky Mount, N.C. (1970–1986). George spent his retirement serving on the boards of Baptist Mid-Missions, Baptist Mission of North America, and Spurgeon Baptist Bible College. But most of his time was spent representing Bibles International, a position that required extensive international travel.

George was preceded in death by his first wife, Edna; a daughter, Georgette; a brother; and a sister.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Patricia; daughters, Catherine C. Strawn, Donna C. Gray, and Beverly Carapelle; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
