Ed Guess, Pastor

EdGuess_inlineSHAWNEE, Kan.—Edgar Dalton Guess, a retired pastor, died on Aug. 16. He was 89.

After serving his country for several years in the Navy, Guess was led to the Lord by Pastor James Gray in 1957. Guess attended Omaha Baptist Bible College and was called to pastor a church in Stanton, Nebraska. A couple of years later, he was called back to the church of his spiritual birth, Oak Grove Baptist Church, Kansas City, Kansas, to serve as associate pastor under his spiritual father, James Gray.

After a short period there, God led him to Faith Baptist Church, Fowler, Colorado, where he was ordained and served as pastor for eight years. In 1976, he and his family moved back to the Kansas City, Missouri, area, where he accepted the pastorate of First Regular Baptist Church, serving for 18 years. In 1995, he retired from full-time service and accepted a position as associate pastor at Olivet Baptist Church, Westwood, Kansas, where he remained as pastor emeritus until his death.

Besides pastoring, Guess also taught a Bible class at Oak Grove Baptist School for 12 years and served on boards at Denver Baptist Bible College, Carver Bible College, the Mid-Continent Association of Regular Baptist Churches, and Amazing Grace Baptist Camp.

Guess was known for his love for his Lord, his love for people, and his sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Vada Belle; his children, Micheal, James, Ruth Anne Dirksen, John, and Paul; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
