DuaneJohnson_inlineELLSWORTH, Kan.—Duane B. Johnson, a pastor for more than 50 years, died Sept. 24 after a three-year battle with cancer. He was 75.

Duane accepted Christ as his personal Savior at the age of 17. The impact of Christ in his life was so strong he went on to start a Bible club in his high school and was later called to serve the Lord in full-time ministry. He graduated from Sadel High School in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1958. Not long after graduation, Duane’s pastor’s wife set him up on a blind date for a youth party at the church. It was love at first sight. Duane married Jeanne Booth on Nov. 11, 1961.

Duane received his pastoral education from Moody Bible Institute, Bob Jones University, the University of Iowa, and Baptist Bible Seminary. He faithfully served his Lord for over 50 years, pastoring Bible Baptist Church, Huron, South Dakota; Madera (California) Baptist Church; Calvary Baptist Church, Caruthers, California; Fundamental Baptist Church, Livermore, California; First Baptist Church, Yuba City, California; Bible Baptist Church, Glenwood, Iowa; and First Baptist Church, Lucas, Kansas. He also served for two years as the school administrator at Fundamental Baptist Academy in Escondido, California. Most recently, Duane taught Bible at the Ellsworth (Kansas) Correctional Facility through the Salvation Army New Beginnings re-entry program.

Duane is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jeanne; three children, Randy, Wendy Denham, and Andy; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
