Donald Love, Missionary

WEST UNITY, Ohio—Donald Love, a former missionary, died on Oct. 11, 2013, at age 81 due to congestive heart failure. Don was a medical missionary, church planter, and administrator with the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism in the Philippines, then held many positions at First Baptist Church, Stryker, Ohio.

Don accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at age 9. From an early age he was active in church.

He was a graduate of Taylor University and the Methodist Hospital School of Medical Technology in Indianapolis. He pastored three Methodist churches while in school and later started two Baptist churches in the Philippines. He worked as a medical technologist in several hospitals in Indiana and in laboratories, and as a teaching supervisor at Parkview Health in Fort Wayne, Ind., and later at St. Mary Mercy in Gary, Ind.

In 1973 the family moved to the Philippines as medical-evangelistic missionaries under ABWE. They were with the mission until 1989, when they returned home due to family health needs. Since that time, he was active in medical laboratories in Montpelier, Wauseon, and Kendallville, Ohio. He was able several times to go to China, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Peru as a valuable team member for short-term medical-evangelism trips.

At First Baptist Church in Stryker, he served at various times as a teacher, deacon, director of Christian Education, leader in the boys’ Awana program, and VBS leader. He was also a chaplain for the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio, served for 12 years on the board of the area Community Pregnancy Centers, tutored for a number of years in the Montpelier school system, and preached as needed in area churches.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barb, and their children, Deborah Stevenson, Rebecca Nelson, and Stephen.
