PARKERSBURG, W.Va.—Donald E. Matheny, a pastor, died Sept. 3, 2018. He was 88.
Don earned an MDiv from Grace Seminary in 1955 and began serving as a pastor in 1956. He pastored Rochester (Ohio) Baptist Church; Emmanuel Baptist Church, Clarksburg, West Virginia; First Baptist Church, Brunswick, Ohio; First Baptist Church, Paden City, West Virginia; and Bible Baptist Church, Parkersburg, West Virginia.
In addition to his role as pastor, Don was a board member of C.O.M.E. and Camp Patmos, a member of the Council of Six for the Freedom Fellowship of Regular Baptist Churches, and director of the Freedom Fellowship Regular Baptist Youth Camp. After retiring from the pastorate in 1995, he served as state representative of the Freedom Fellowship of Regular Baptist Churches.
In 2002 the GARBC honored Don and his wife, Leona, with a Service Award for their many years of ministry as “a godly team.”
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Leona; three children, David, Lois, and Pam; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
