David G. Piper, Pastor in Washington State

KENNEWICK, Wash.—David G. Piper, pastor of Grace Baptist Church, Kennewick, Wash., for 28 years, died on Aug. 24, 2011, from complications relating to leukemia.

Pastor Piper was born in 1940 in Pittsford, Mich. He graduated from Cedarville University, Cedarville, Ohio, in 1962, receiving degrees in history and science. There he met Phyllis; they married in 1961 in Kuna, Idaho. The couple settled in the Boise Valley, where they both taught in Boise schools. A constant in David’s life was a desire to serve the Lord, and in 1968 he transitioned out of education and into full-time church ministry. Pastor Piper was instrumental in founding First Baptist Church, Meridian, Idaho. From that experience, he felt called to be a church planter and went on to begin churches in Boardman, Ore., and later in Kennewick, Wash.

David was preceded in death by a twin sister, Linda; and his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; their four children, David, Scott, Mark, and Joan Henckel; 14 grandchildren; a brother, Darrell E. Piper; and a sister, Nancy Fellabaum.
