HILLSBORO, Ore.—Dr. Buel L. Liming, evangelist, pastor, and author, died May 26, 2014. He was 80 years old.

Buel attended Los Angeles Baptist College and the Bible Institute of Los Angeles (now Biola). He was ordained in 1961 in Hillsboro and received his ThD in 1983 from Dothan Theological Seminary in Alabama.

From 1968 to 1979 he was an evangelist, teaching and preaching the Word of God in GARBC churches across the nation. As such he conducted evangelistic meetings and Bible conferences, directed Vacation Bible School, and spoke at summer camps. In addition, he was pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro (1961–1963); Berean Baptist Church, Pella, Iowa (1977–1981); Oasis Baptist Church, Las Vegas (1981–1996); and Navelencia Community Church, Reedley, Calif. (1999–2003).

Buel loved to study, teach, and preach the Word of God. He taught systematic theology for two years at a Bible institute in central California while pastoring. He was also the author of approximately 84 books concerning Bible-related subjects and maintained a Bible chart ministry, where he designed over 1,000 Bible charts that explained the Word of God.

As a hobby, he raised and trained homing pigeons, showing several of his birds in pigeon shows, including at the Washington County Fair and the Oregon State Fair. He also enjoyed running. He celebrated his 80th birthday last year by running in a 5K race in downtown Hillsboro along with over 1,100 other participants. (“Dr. Buel Liming loves running—and even if he doesn’t know it, runners love him.”)

Buel was preceded in death by four brothers, three sisters, and an infant son.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; four children, Anne Noriega, Thomas, Charlotte Arrington, and Naomi Dethmers; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
