Bruce Stewart, Longtime Pastor

MIDDLEVILLE, Mich.—Bruce Stewart, longtime pastor, died on Oct. 24, 2011, at age 75.

Bruce was a pastor for 50 years, ministering at West Chicago Baptist Church, Detroit, Mich.; First Baptist Church, Bowling Green, Ohio; Bible Baptist Church, West Springfield, Mass.; and First Baptist Church, Middleville, Mich., where he was pastor for 19 years until his retirement in 2004. In addition, he ministered in several countries in missions work and was an ambassador for Baptists for Life.

Bruce was the former chaplain for the Detroit Police Department and the Barry County Sheriff Department. He also served on the boards of Cornerstone University, Continental Baptist Mission, and the Council of Fifteen of the Michigan Association of Regular Baptist Churches.

Bruce was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Marcene, of 53 years; his children, DiAnn Randall, David, Dale, Darrin, and Darla Gabrielse; 21 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his sister, Jean Doig; and several nieces and nephews.
