RAYTOWN, Mo.—Anthony Bourdess, longtime pastor, died on Oct. 25, 2010, at age 99.
Anthony was an ordained Baptist minister for 58 years, serving churches in Pennsylvania, Arkansas, Kansas, and Missouri. He retired from the ministry as associate pastor at First Regular Baptist Church, Kansas City, Mo. He served one year as the general superintendent of the City Union Mission, Kansas City, Mo., under its founder’s wife, Mrs. David Bulkley.
In addition to his active life in the ministry, Anthony was a master machinist. He worked at Sheffield (ARMCO) Steel for 22 years. He loved to fish, garden, and work with wood. He also loved music, especially what he called “the good old songs” of the faith.
He was an active member of Olivet Baptist Church, Westwood, Kan. Until recently, he could be found ministering at the Sing-a-Long at Temple Heights Retirement, where he played his harmonica for the group.
Anthony was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ada Mae; three sisters; two brothers; and one great-great-grandson.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Elizabeth; two sons, Howard and Anthony; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
