SCHAUMBURG, Ill.—Today America takes time to remember and be grateful for the men and women who have served in the Armed Forces of the U.S. It is a day that is remembered at every level of government. Cities and counties across this land are taking time to say thank you. At Arlington National Cemetery, President Obama laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and spoke at the Annual National Veterans Day Program. On this day of remembrance, the GARBC gives thanks for the sacrifices made by veterans who are members and attendees of GARBC churches as well as members and attendees who are serving at home or abroad.

“I am honored to serve alongside our current and future chaplains as well as many of our retired chaplains,” says John Murdoch, director of Regular Baptist Chaplaincy Ministries. “They not only serve their country but they also serve their God in a manner that brings honor and glory to both. From the inception of our fellowship of churches, we have been blessed to be able to place our ministers into the Armed Forces, and they have served courageously in times of peace and war.”

Dr. John Greening, GARBC national representative, shared his thoughts as well. “One of the great joys of my ministry is the privilege my position has granted me to have a close organizational relationship with chaplains who serve our nation’s armed forces. Our U.S. military personnel are the finest troops in the world. It is our association’s desire to return our military’s kindness of protecting our nation by sharing with men and women in uniform the message of eternal life in Christ. On this day of national reflection and remembrance, our churches stand in honor of our military. Our gratitude goes to you, our armed forces. We offer our prayers to God on your behalf.”

One of the programs the GARBC has developed through its Chaplaincy Ministry is the Regular Baptist Veterans Corps. This ministry honors veterans at the National Conference and seeks to encourage and minister to them year-round.

As you take time today to remember the service of loved ones, friends, and their fellow service members, please also remember those deployed around the world defending our freedom. Lift them up in prayer along with our nation and their loved ones.

Thank you, veterans, for your years of service, and may God bless America!
