Talents For Christ: Final Preparations

By March 9, 2012June 20th, 2014No Comments

Now that the scholarship registration for Talents For Christ has closed, competitors’ final preparations are well under way. Pray for the Talents For Christ competitors as they work hard to get ready for their state competitions. Their requirements include serving in their churches, so pray that this portion will have a profound impact on those who listen to, look at, or read students’ work. Pray also that it urges competitors toward a lifetime of serving Christ.

Here are some tips for both competitors and supporting churches:

  • Don’t lose unnecessary points. Review the rules.
    • Complete all the requirements. Check with your state director on the specific deadlines.
    • Carefully read the rules. Take special note of time limits. Ensure that you have all the needed materials and that they are in the correct format.
  • Practice, practice, practice.
    • Competitors, it is your personal responsibility to make sure you are as prepared as you can be. Practice so you can feel confident on competition day.
    • Churches, set up a mock competition. Encourage peers and adults to give constructive, not discouraging, feedback. Not sure how to give feedback? No problem. Just be there to listen. A big part of being ready to compete is feeling confident and comfortable performing in front of an audience. The only way to gain that comfort is by practicing in front of others.
  • Fulfill the church ministry requirement early.
    • Competitors, don’t wait until the last minute to fit in your church ministry requirement.
    • Churches, incorporate the competitors in a significant way. Consider having a special service featuring Talents For Christ. Host a reception afterwards to show students the church’s support.
  • On competition day . . .
    • You have done everything you can to prepare by this point. Take a deep breath and enjoy the day. Talk with other competitors and make new friends.
    • It is a huge support to have friends and family around on competition day. So friends and family, take time to pray with the competitors and visit with them. Help ease their nerves by chatting and joking around about topics other than the competition and their nerves.
