Slippin’ and Slidin’ Lead to Sharing the Gospel

HARLAN, Iowa—Slippin’ and slidin’—it’s what teens do every year at Grace Baptist Church’s outdoor Water Bowl. Pastor Joe Earle says it’s four hours of fun that include a mud jousting pit, a monster slip and slide, a water balloon battleship, and more. Between games, the church feeds the teens and presents the gospel.

It seems strange that rain would affect a Water Bowl, but that’s what happened this summer. Pastor Earle says numbers were down from previous years, with unseasonably cold temperatures keeping students away. Plus, he says, they scaled back on some of the water games “so kids could dry off and keep warm.” The rain notwithstanding, he says, “It was a wonderful time, and the gospel was shared with many kids who likely have no comprehension of the Good News.”
