INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—Heather Hills Baptist Church was privileged to host Dr. Harold Best (former dean of the Wheaton College Conservatory of Music and noted author) and Dr. Joe Crider (professor of music and worship at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Ky.) for its Fourth Annual SEED Conference. SEED—Spiritual Enrichment and Education—focuses each year on one of Heather Hills’ eight core values. This year the theme was worship.

“Through Sunday services, an evening symposium, and teacher training, these men delivered rich, theological food for the church family,” says Pastor Brian McCrorie.

“Is Worship the Only Word for Worship?” Dr. Best asked in his opening message on Sunday, March 17–one of several times he spoke throughout the conference that ended on the 19th. He answered that question with another question: “To what kind of life are Christians called? . . . We are called to a life circumscribed, intensified, and fed by the blessed triad that Paul dealt so handily with; namely, a life of faith, a life of hope, and a life of love.” These three, he says, are “the overall driving engines of what it means to be a Christian.”

Worship is not an addendum or a set of actions confined to a certain time, he says, but is rather an unconditioned, continuous act of faith.

One of the highlights of the conference was a Church Leadership Day in which 20 pastors and laymen from the central Indiana region had the opportunity to get up close and personal with these gifted men.

The church was also delighted to host the Boyce Vocal Band from Boyce College, who lead the music on Sunday. “The team, under the direction of Dr. Greg Brewton, was a superb addition to this special day and also an encouragement to teens/students in an evening event,” Pastor McCrorie says.

Next year’s SEED conference will focus on evangelism/discipleship and feature the teaching ministry of Dr. Don Whitney and Evangelist Keven Brownfield.
