Quentin Myron Gillett (1931–2011)

OMAHA, Neb.—Quentin Myron Gillett, 79, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 15 after serving Him faithfully in Omaha, Neb.

Quentin was born on Dec. 10, 1931, in Glenn, Neb., to Rolland and Harriet Gillett, one of their 13 children. Though he was saved as a child, he did not follow the Lord as he knew he should. Two events initiated a turning point in his life. He survived an accident on an oil rig. Then later, on the way to sign up for the army, he was in a serious car accident, which left him paralyzed from the waist down. Two years later he realized that God had been sparing his life. Quentin then dedicated his life to God. That was the beginning of many years of faithful service to his Lord.

While living at the local YMCA in Omaha, Neb., Quentin met Lorraine. They were married on Feb. 4, 1956, and adopted two children, Michael and Carolyn.

Quentin worked in the banking industry for 27 years and then at the Gallup Corporation for 16 years. He made use of his God-given abilities by serving as a deacon at Temple Baptist Church and later at Park Lane Baptist Church, both in Omaha. He was also involved in the inception of Whispering Cedars Baptist Camp, Genoa, Neb., in 1971. He served on the Nebraska Association of Regular Baptist Churches Council of Eight as a layman for more than 25 years, and throughout most of that time used his talents as its treasurer. Through his personal visitation and correspondence ministry at a Nebraska prison, several inmates received Christ as their Savior. He also supported a number of missionaries, including his brother Clarence.

Quentin was preceded in death by his son, Michael, in 2008. He is survived by Lorraine, his wife of 54 years; his daughter, Carolyn Barkley; seven grandchildren; and a host of additional family members and friends.
