Princeton Church Breaks Ground

PRINCETON, Ind.—Gathering on its recently purchased 92 acres of property, First Baptist Church held a ground-breaking ceremony for its new facility. The first stage of the construction project will include a multipurpose building that will seat 600 worshipers and have adequate space to support other ministries such as Sunday School classes and Awana. Completion is set for late 2010.

Construction plans began over 10 years ago when First Baptist realized it needed to relocate from its less than three acres in downtown Princeton. In 2003 the church was able to purchase a large tract of land for $540,000. Then in 2007 the church initiated site work, including roadways, parking lots, grading, and some utilities, costing an additional $1.1 million. First Baptist is thankful that the property and site work have been paid for, and the church is now raising funds for the actual facility, which is not to exceed $3.3 million.

In April 2008, when an earthquake forced the congregation out of the original sanctuary (which was over 100 years old), services started being held in the Fellowship Hall. So the congregation is looking forward to the possibility of having Thanksgiving dinner at its new location. Pastor George Prinzing has ministered at First Baptist since 1999.
