Ohio Church Hosts Cleveland Browns Players

WESTLAKE, OHIO—Three players from the Cleveland Browns have helped Grace Baptist Church, Westlake, Ohio, host a family outreach event, Go Deep with the Browns. More than four hundred children and parents heard the testimonies of Phil Dawson, Simon Fraser, and Jason Wright. Dawson and his wife, Shannon, are members of Grace Baptist.

Each child participated in a series of punting, passing, kicking, and agility drills, with awards for the winners of each category. Next, guests met with the three players in the church auditorium for a “press conference” hosted by Tom Petersburg, chaplain for the Cleveland Browns. Players answered questions from the audience about their life as football players. More importantly, they all gave testimonies of their faith in Jesus Christ. The event, which was attended by more than 400 guests, concluded with an autograph session in the church gym.

“Any time you try something like this, you get anxious to see if it will actually work—but God is in control,” Phil Dawson said of the event. “We’re reaching out to people who would not normally come to church.”

The January issue of the Baptist Bulletin will feature an interview with Phil Dawson.
