GRIMES, Iowa—Pastor Wayne Hart and the deacons from Maranatha Baptist Church recently consulted with Jim Vogel, GARBC associate national representative, who led a seminar on basic strategic planning.

The church leaders discussed ministry vision, assessment, projection, and implementation. Jim also led an evaluation of specific areas of the church’s ministry, helping the church develop proactive steps to improve its ministry in the future.

“I met with Wayne last year, spending about six hours with him,” Vogel says, explaining how he begins the process of strategic planning. “I try to work with pastors first, helping them think strategically so they can develop their church’s approach to ministry.”

The church has a lot going for it—a real buzz. I asked them to assess 10 areas of revitalization, and then asked them to consider what to do next in each area.”

Jim was in the Des Moines area ministering at the IARBC Midwinter Couples’ Retreat held at Stoney Creek Inn, Johnston, Iowa, and hosted by First Baptist Church of Creston.
