James Newman, Pastor

Newman_inlinePORTLAND, Ore.—James Newman, a retired pastor, died March 15.

Jim attended Simpson Bible Institute and Seattle Pacific College and married Ramona in August 1950. Working as a journeyman painter, he served the Lord in Seattle’s Skid Row Mission and was a guest vocalist on the New Covenant radio broadcast.

Jim was assistant pastor of First Baptist Church of Eastgate, Bellevue, Washington, from 1955 to 1961. He went on to become pastor of Bethany Baptist Church, Kenmore, Washington; First Baptist Church, Wenatchee, Washington; Bethel Baptist Church, Kalispell, Montana; and Lake Hazel, Boise, Idaho. His last ministry was as pastor to seniors at Whitney Baptist Church, Boise, Idaho, before retiring at age 80. He then moved to Gresham, Oregon, to be near family.

Services will be held Saturday, March 28, at 2:00 p.m. at Powellhurst Baptist Church, 3435 SE 112th, Portland, Oregon.
