Yard Sale Builds Good Rapport with Community

Cascade-MD_inlineCASCADE, Md.—For the second year, Good News Baptist Church hosted a free “Yard Sale.” The purpose was not to sell items, but to give away clothing and household goods donated by individuals and fellowshipping churches. Approximately 300 people from the community came to the event. It ran from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12, and from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. the next day.

The Yard Sale gave the church an opportunity to provide for needs of those burdened by poverty and to tangibly show them the love of Christ. The event was also a tool to share the good news concerning Jesus Christ, so each family received gospel literature and a brochure with information about Good News Baptist.

Good News Baptist Church began in 2012 as a daughter church of Evangel Baptist, Hagerstown, Md., and a ministry of the DelMarVa Baptist Fellowship. The Yard Sale “helped us to make our presence and location known as a new church,” says Pastor Kurt Schroder. “Additionally, it has helped the church to build a good rapport with the community.”
