Vanhooser_INMOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa—Four members of Calvary Baptist Church’s counseling ministry have been recognized by the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (formerly known as the National Association of Nouthetic Counselors).

Sherry VanHooser, director of women’s ministries, is the most recent to complete the certification process, following Pastor Mike Hess, Administrative Pastor Jerry VanHooser (Sherry’s husband), and Jan Yaley. Certification requires reading a minimum of 1,000 pages of counseling resources, observing a certified counselor for at least 10 hours, completing a theology exam as well as a counseling exam, and having an ACBC fellow supervise 50 hours of counseling.

Calvary Baptist provides hundreds of hours of free Biblical counseling each year to those seeking God’s answers to the questions and problems in their lives. The church is now moving forward in becoming an ACBC accredited counseling center.
