Central Baptist Celebrates Centennial

HOBART, Ind.—Central Baptist Church celebrated its 100th anniversary on the weekend of July 11 and 12. A catered dinner in the fellowship hall preceded a program in which Jim Wick led the singing and Dr. Clay Nuttall with Baptists Equipping Nationals spoke. Speaking in the evening were Rev. Larry Armstrong, former missionary in the Philippines and Australia and now missionary at large in Oregon, and Jim and Carol Garcines, missionaries working with Filipinos and other ethnic groups in California.

On Sunday, Rev. John Greening spoke in the morning service, followed by a carry-in dinner and an old-fashioned hymn sing led by Mike Kellogg. Rev. Allan and  Diane Frey, missionaries to Peru, spoke in the afternoon. Many former members attended the events of both days.

Central has a long history of pastors, including Dr. William Ward Ayer, Dr. Robert T. Ketcham, William Headley, Donald MacKay, Wilbur Rooke, Richard Elvee, Ken Ohrstrom, J. Don Jennings Sr., Dale Fisher, Dr. Clay Nuttall, and the present pastor, David Webb.
