Ladies1JOHNSON CITY, N.Y.—Women from New York churches learned how to be “Bold Women in a Broken World” at the Empire State Fellowship of Regular Baptist Churches’ Ladies’ Advance. First Baptist Church hosted the event Sept. 27 and 28; 450 women attended. Jeannie Vogel, whose husband, Jim, is the state representative of the EFS, says it was “a wonderful time of fellowship, food, laughter, drama, workshops, and studying the Word.”

The theme was based on 2 Corinthians 3:12: “Since we have such a hope, we are very bold” (ESV).

During the main sessions a team of instrumentalists and singers from First Baptist Church in Horseheads led in worship. Esther Frustino of the host church made the ladies laugh and cry with her drama that was meant to entertain and make them think about being bold in a broken world. ABWE missionary Dr. Cheryl Fawcett was the main speaker, teaching about three bold women in the Bible. Event organizers describe Cheryl as “a gifted speaker who has literally traveled the world teaching and equipping people to understand and apply the Word.” She is author of the Kids’ Questions series of books published by Regular Baptist Press.

Ladies3Each attendee chose three of nine workshops to attend that dealt with mentoring, witnessing, marriage, anger, grief, the top three teen problems, healthful eating, social media, and landscaping.

Kim Cone attended with her mom and her husband’s three sisters. She says, “The music and all the speakers were a blessing to me. Thanks to all who put in a lot of hard work to make this weekend possible.” Kathleen Brennan called the event a “wonderful time of renewal!” She says, “It has been years since I attended a Ladies’ Advance and this did not disappoint. So thankful to all those who worked so hard to put it together.”

Jeannie says, “Extra benefits this year to the Ladies’ Advance were the in-house bookstore, marvelous dessert buffet, gourmet lunch, opportunities for fellowship, and some wonderful giveaways. Hopefully each woman left encouraged and ready to boldly share about Jesus, the hope of the broken world.”
