A Surprise Anniversary at Highland Hills

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan—Pastor David Lamb arrived at Highland Hills Baptist Church on Sunday morning, thinking he knew the service order. In fact, the ushers handed Pastor Lamb a bulletin that featured his name, as always, as the morning preacher. But the church had worked very hard on a special surprise to commemorate eighteen years of leadership by Pastor Lamb and his wife, Brenda. Suddenly, members of the extended Lamb family appeared, as did Dr. Ed Fuller, the state representative for the Wisconsin Association of Regular Baptist Churches. Pastor Lamb was then handed the commemorative bulletin everyone else already had, featuring a service order based on Philippians 2:1-2.

Pastor Lamb served at Highland Hills Baptist for eight years as youth pastor, then was called as senior pastor. The anniversary celebration on September 9 was held on the tenth anniversary of his installation service as senior pastor.

The church had invited Dr. Fuller as guest speaker, knowing he was David Lamb’s pastor as he grew up. After the service the church held an anniversary dinner and presented the Lambs with a monetary gift and a new canoe.

“If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.”–Philippians 2:1-2
