ALTON, Ill.---Philomena Nicholas, a former pastor's wife, died Dec. 11 at age 87.
ALTON, Ill.—Philomena Nicholas, a former pastor’s wife, died Dec. 11 at age 87. She was born Feb. 16, 1926, in Calabria, Italy. Her husband, Paul E. Nicholas, whom she married May 15, 1948, was pastor of First Baptist Church, Yarmouth, Iowa, and Bethel Baptist Church, Iowa Falls, Iowa. He preceded her in death on Sept. 12, 2005, at age 79. Philomena was a member of Brown Street Baptist Church in Alton, where she taught Sunday School and was an active member of the Senior Servants group. Her daughter, Mary Jo Oliver, preceded her in death. She is survived by two sons, John and David, and four grandchildren, Nicholas Oliver (pastor of Faith Baptist Church, Fort Dodge, Iowa), Justin Oliver, Alyssa Mars, and Morgan Mars.Posted in Miscellaneous on January 3, 2014.
