One Purpose Weekend Recharges Congregation

TOLEDO, Ohio—Emmanuel Baptist Church hosted its First Annual One Purpose Weekend Sept. 13–15. The goal of the event was to help the entire church family commit to its one purpose in life: giving God glory. “This is our purpose. This is God’s plan for our life,” say Emmanuel’s pastors. “I think sometimes in the midst of our busy schedules and normal routines, we forget this and need to be reminded of what is most important for us as Christians.”

The weekend kicked off with a dinner under tents in the church parking lot, then everyone headed inside the church for the first workshop session. Three more workshop sessions took place the next two days, with participants choosing among 27 topics geared toward many stages of life.

Pastor Duke Crawford delivered a keynote address each day, and a HeartSong vocal team of Cedarville University presented a concert and led worship. Austin Crawford, director of worship at Emmanuel, led worship the third day. Throughout the weekend, children were a welcome part of the event. They attended their own program during the workshops, enjoyed games and a bouncy house during portions of the first two days, and attended worship and the main sessions with their parents.

One Purpose Weekend, says one attendee, was “a restful and joyful experience—a good way to recharge spiritual batteries.”
