New Dresses for Orphan Girls in South Africa

WEST WINFIELD, N.Y.—Girls living in an orphanage in South Africa will have new dresses to wear, thanks to the ladies of Unadilla Forks Baptist Church.

Women arrived to the church at 10:00 a.m. Jan. 20 with their own sewing machines, scissors, and irons. Then until 3:00 p.m. they made as many sundresses as they could using fabric that church members had donated. A second sewing event took place on Jan. 26, this time in the evening from 5:00 to 9:00.

The dresses will go to the girls living at the orphanage operated by South Africa’s Bethesda Outreach, where First Baptist Church of West Danby, New York, will soon be going on a missions trip. First Baptist also made dresses for the girls and will deliver all the clothes while on their trip. “We were happy to contribute in any way we could,” says Pastor Brian Cook. “It was just a good opportunity to bless.”
