Men’s Retreat Addresses Church Revitalization

VENTURA, Iowa—More than 400 men from Iowa churches attended the Revive retreat at Iowa Regular Baptist Camp Aug. 23–24. David Cotner, pastor of Prairie Flower Baptist Church, Washington, Iowa, calls the retreat “an awesome weekend” filled with “good fellowship, delicious food, and great preaching/teaching on the topic of church health and revitalization.”

Mike Hess, national representative of the GARBC, spoke on church revitalization. “Revival is the people of God reconnecting with the Word of God,” he told the men. “You were meant to be close to the Word.”

Three additional speakers led workshops. Tim Capon, state representative of the Iowa Association of Regular Baptist Churches, led a workshop on evangelism. Stephen Moore, pastor of Horton Baptist Church, Waverly, Iowa, addressed the question “What is a healthy church member?” And Dean Taylor, who teaches pastoral training at Faith Baptist Bible College and Theological Seminary answered the question “What is a healthy pastor?” (“A decaying heart leads to a dying church,” Taylor pointed out.)

“We’ve already received so many positive comments and feedback,” Cotner says. “The Iowa Association of Regular Baptist Churches invites you to pray that lasting fruit would truly spring forth from this great weekend of ministry.”
