LAFAYETTE, Ind.—Faith Church is presenting, as a gift to its community, the Lafayette Living Nativity. The free event takes place over two weekends—Dec. 11–13 and 18–20 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.—at the Faith East Campus.

More than 230,000 people have seen the Lafayette Living Nativity since its inception in December 1991.

Steve Viars, pastor of Faith Church, says, “We realize many important community events have appropriately been canceled this year because of COVID-19. We are thankful that, with minor modifications, the drive-through nature of the Lafayette Living Nativity will allow Faith Church to offer this presentation to our friends and neighbors again this year in a way that is safe and enjoyable for the entire family. The message of the joy and hope we can have in Jesus Christ may be more important this Christmas season than ever before.”

Modifications to the event, after input from the Tippecanoe County Health Department, include eliminating the walk-through element of previous years. Guests drive past the Living Nativity’s nine scenes while listening to the narration (offered in English, Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese) in guests’ own vehicles.

Driving through the venue, visitors see the busy streets of ancient Bethlehem, watch Mary and Joseph travel to Bethlehem, see the innkeeper who had no room for the Christ child, and get a close-up look at live camels.

Involving a cast of hundreds, the scenes not only depict the significance of the Baby in the manger but also address the reasons for the Savior’s time on earth and bring to life the message of salvation.
