ANKENY, Iowa—The Iowa Association of Regular Baptist Churches hosted a “Back on Track” students event, held at Ankeny Baptist Church. Pastor Nathan Osborne from Faith Baptist Church in Winter Haven, Florida, was the guest speaker.

“The church mattered to Jesus as He gave His life for her,” says the IARBC. The church mattered to the apostles, too, as they gave their lives advancing the gospel and establishing the early church throughout the Roman Empire. And, through the centuries, the church has mattered to generations of Christians who have clearly understood that being a Christian is more than just “me and Jesus.” Christianity is me, Jesus, and others.

Osborne challenged 160 students and leaders to recognize that the church matters for the sake of God’s glory. It matters because of Christians’ responsibility to love one another and help each other move along in their walk with Christ. Healthy churches, says Osborne, are the evidence of healthy Christians who are not pretending but are truly investing in and taking responsibility for one another.

“The sound doctrine of God’s Word through preaching provided a clear framework for students to understand that the church is essential to their spiritual health,” says the IARBC. Students were reminded to be church members that fulfill their responsibility of guarding Biblical doctrine and one another. “What a privilege to help students recognize how the local church is central to their discipleship!”
