ANKENY, Iowa—New City Church is now an established church after being planted last year through the Engage Network of Saylorville Church in Des Moines.

Desiring to be a church-planting church, Saylorville began the Engage Network in 2005 to identify and equip people for ministry and send them out to serve, especially to plant churches. “We want to move people from our ministries to the ministry,” says Pat Nemmers, pastor of Saylorville Church.

New City Church is the fifth church plant in the Engage Network and could be considered a granddaughter church, as New City Church was started by the Engage Network’s first church plant, Lakeside Fellowship in Polk City, Iowa. New City Church “started with 55 adults, each of them committing to knocking on doors and inviting the community to Sunday services,” says Adam Beecher, pastor of New City Church. The church held its first worship service in June 2019.

On Jan. 5 of this year, Lakeside hosted an incorporation service for the new church, marking its year of establishment as 2020. Eighty-eight adults signed a document indicating that they are charter members. Pat Nemmers gave the charge to the church, encouraging the congregation to be a church that preaches and lives out the gospel. “It was a wonderful time of celebration,” he says.
