BELMONT, Mich.—West Cannon Baptist Church is hosting a Biblical Counseling and Discipleship Training Conference in partnership with Faith Biblical Counseling Ministries, Lafayette, Indiana. The heartbeat of both West Cannon Baptist and FBCM is the ongoing training of pastors, leaders, missionaries, and church members who desire to point hurting people to Jesus through His all-sufficient Word.

This past weekend, March 15–16, was part one of the three-part conference. That weekend more than 160 people from two dozen churches attended to learn the foundation of Biblical counseling. Parts two and three of the conference will take place April 12–13 and May 17–18. Each weekend, attendees learn from Steve Viars, pastor of Faith Church, Lafayette, Indiana, and his team of counselors. The three-weekend format allows people “to return home and practice what [they] learn, then come back with comments, questions, and experiences to talk about,” explains the conference website.

“Our goal is to equip the body of Christ to do the work of the ministry and fulfill the Great Commission by making disciples,” says Doug Crawford, pastor of West Cannon Baptist Church. The training, he says, “will be helpful for personal discipleship and to help others glorify God by becoming more like Christ.”
