Coffee House Program Shares Hope of Christ

FlintMI2_inlineFLINT, Mich.—South Baptist Church hosted its annual Coffee House, this year called “Strings of Hope.” The message of the evening, delivered through music and drama, reminded every person attending March 11 and 12 that hope is available to those who come to Jesus.

In its sixth year, the Coffee House is designed as an event that church members can invite friends, neighbors, coworkers, and family to. “Many people hesitant to attend a church service are more willing to come to an informal event where they can enjoy coffee and delicious savory and sweet snacks along with entertainment that points people to Christ,” says Executive Pastor Larry Burk. “There is laughter and even tears as the gospel message is woven through the program.”

The church’s Acting Up drama team performs during the evening, but many more people work behind the scenes, helping with decorations and food prep; serving food and drinks; and providing original artwork as well as home furnishings to create a warm atmosphere where people can eat and talk prior to the program.

Many unchurched people have been introduced to South Baptist Church through the Coffee House ministry. And this year, people in Flint who are in need of clean water will receive bottled water that the church collected at the event.

After the performance, Acting Up took its message of hope on the road, sharing some of the music and drama from the program with a Flint area foster care facility and Flint inner-city mission. Burk says the team members “are praising God for a great Coffee House event in 2016 and are already making plans for 2017.”
