NEWAYGO, Mich.—First Baptist Church hosted a surprise retirement fellowship for Don and Sandy Long, who have served in ministry for four decades.

For the past 18 years Don has been a representative for Shepherds Ministries, an organization that provides vocational, educational, and residential opportunities for adults with intellectual disabilities. Don represented the organization in several states, including Michigan, Ohio, Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah. Before his role with Shepherds Ministries, Don and Sandy were pastor and wife in four churches for 23 years.

First Baptist presented the Longs with an original leaf from a 1586 Geneva Bible that included Don’s favorite verse, 1 Timothy 1:12. The Geneva version reads, “For he counted me faithful, and put me in his service.”
