RusticHills1_inlineCOLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Rustic Hills Baptist Church celebrated its 50th anniversary July 26 and 27.

Over 400 people, including members from the church’s earliest years, were in attendance for the western-theme celebration.

On Saturday the Cowboys for Jesus (formerly the Flying W Wranglers) presented a western and Christian music concert. Rustic Hills Baptist provided a chuck wagon lunch. And horse trainer Bob Toomer, a missionary with Baptist Church Planters, presented the gospel during a round-pen demonstration. (Read about Bob Toomer in “Life Lessons from the Round Pen” from the February 2004 Baptist Bulletin.) Guests also enjoyed a bounce house for kids, face painting, volleyball, and lots of fellowship.

Sunday’s events included three services: “A Look Back,” “A Look Ahead,” and a service filled with testimonies. Former pastors Leslie Newell (1970–1973) and J. Ronald Burnet (1973–1992) preached along with Pastor Stan Lightfoot (1993–present). Masterpiece Cakeshop in Lakewood, Colo., (the same shop that has been in national headlines after refusing to provide a wedding cake for a gay couple) provided a beautiful cake to help celebrate.

Rustic Hills Baptist Church was founded, established, formally recognized, and received into the GARBC in 1964. Pastor Stan Lightfoot says, “It was a very special celebration of what God has done for us and a great opportunity to renew fellowship with God’s RHBC people.”
