Groundbreaking_inline1GENESEO, N.Y.—Cornerstone Baptist Church broke ground for the addition of a 2,840-square-foot Christian Education wing June 15. “Our new addition will provide a better tool for us to serve and strengthen young families,” says Pastor John Zatkiewicz. “It will also enable us to utilize our current Sunday School building as a youth center for teens and college students.”

The church had been studying the theme “Prayer Is Our Foundation,” so during the ground-breaking ceremony, everyone joined hands around the perimeter of the future structure while Dan Fossa, Christian Education deacon, led in prayer. Breaking ground were the building committee chairman, a children’s Sunday School teacher and member of the building committee, and a student who will be getting a new classroom.

The new portion of the church will include four large classrooms, a large nursery, a conference room, and restrooms. A team of missionary builders from Continental Baptist Missions, based in Grand Rapids, is leading the project. In doing so, they are returning to the 8,000-square-foot church that they built in 1991. Zatkiewicz has been pastor of the 26-year-old Cornerstone Baptist Church since 1994.
