Preaching Resource Introduction

“I would say that a ‘dull preacher’ is a contradiction in terms; if he is dull he is not a preacher. He may stand in a pulpit and talk, but he is certainly not a preacher.  The man who is called by God is a man who realizes what he is called to do, and he so realizes the awefulness of the task that he shrinks from it. Nothing but this overwhelming sense of being called, and of compulsion, should ever lead anyone to preach.”

David Martyn Lloyd-Jones

In a fellowship that is known for its expository preachers, it is no small thing to have oversight over a topic as vital as preaching.  The intent of this section of the website is to provide a forum whereby we can sharpen our skills in cutting straight the Word of God. As younger pastors, we have a great heritage of preaching that we seek to affirm and exemplify.

I’m reminded of Paul’s words to his true son in the faith, Timothy: “Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership. Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all. Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you” (1 Timothy 4:12-16).

I trust that this portion of the Quest website will help provide each of us with tools, ideas, and encouragement that will move us forward in being examples in our doctrine from the pulpit.
