BROOKSVILLE, Fla.—Ralph M. Weer, missionary pastor, died July 4, 2014. He was 85.
Ralph enlisted in the U.S. Navy and rose to the rank of third-class petty officer while being a Russian language decoder. Ralph married his wife, Myrtle, in 1949. Following their wedding, he started an auto parts company with his father and later founded C. J. Auto Parts warehouse in Trenton, N.J. Ralph was then called into the ministry. After working during the day, he traveled by train to take evening classes at Philadelphia Bible College.
Ralph became a church planter with the Fellowship of Baptists for Home Missions and was pastor of the newly planted Kendall Park (N.J.) Baptist Church. After it came to full support, he became the first full-time director of the youth camp New Life Island, Frenchtown, N.J. The camp says, “We praise God for Pastor Weer’s vision for camp and his love for children.”
He served as director for 15 years, during which time he was state representative for the Garden State Fellowship of Regular Baptist Churches. He also served on the board of trustees of Baptist Bible College, Clarks Summit, Pa.
After stepping down as camp director, Ralph was an interim pastor of churches in Florida and New York.
He was preceded in death by a son, Richard.
He is survived by his wife, Myrtle; two sons, Thomas and Steven; one daughter, Judith Ann Cannon; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
