Effective Reading of Scripture

By February 11, 2008June 19th, 2014No Comments

As I hear the Scriptures being read publicly, I shudder at the lack of preparation that sometimes precedes the oral reading of God’s Word. Paul admonished Timothy to “give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine” (1 Timothy 4:13). Scripture reading should be one of the most sacred moments in our worship services. When we mispronounce or stumble over inspired words from God, we demean the sacredness of Holy Writ. We can increase our appreciation for the dignity of God’s Word by listening to tapes or CDs of Scripture reading. We can improve our public rendering of Scripture by reading along with the readers on these recordings and practicing our renderings before our public readings. Let’s lift high the sacredness of God’s Holy Word!

“So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the LORD” (Deuteronomy 8:3).

“Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him” (Proverbs 30:5).
