WEST CLARKSVILLE, N.Y.—Leslie E. Chambers, pastor of West Clarksville Baptist Church, died July 30 after a brief battle with cancer. He was 62.

Les attended Cedarville University and then enlisted in the United States Army, serving from Oct. 15, 1971, until being honorably discharged on Jan. 28, 1975. He then studied at Spurgeon Baptist Bible College, graduating in 1979.

Returning to his home state of New York after graduating, he was ordained at First Baptist Church in North Tonawanda on Oct. 8, 1980. In August 1985 he became pastor of West Clarksville Baptist Church, where he was still serving. For several years he was also chaplain for the Allegany County Sheriff’s Department.

Chambers will be remembered as being a compassionate pastor who was always attentive to the needs of his congregation and community members. He was a faithful servant of the Lord, providing a positive attitude, and refused to let his illness overshadow his love and faith.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemarie, whom he married on Nov. 30, 1974; their children, Stacey Fisher, Paul, Daniel, David, John, and Philip; and eight grandchildren.
