With the Lord

Joyce Rohrer, Associate Pastor’s Wife

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—Joyce Rohrer, wife of Associate Pastor Tom Rohrer of North Park Baptist Church, died on Aug. 23. She was 71.

Joyce faithfully served her Lord alongside her husband in ministry, for over 20 years at Northland Baptist Church in Grand Rapids and most recently for 17 years at North Park Baptist Church. Often you would find Joyce accompanying her husband on pastoral calls to church members, shut-ins, and seekers of the Christian faith. She loved to sing in the choir, play the piano, work in the nursery, and teach 6- to 8-year-olds.

Along with her ministry as associate pastor’s wife, Joyce was a licensed practical nurse, having graduated from Hurley Nursing School in Michigan and Grand Rapids Baptist College. Joyce worked as a licensed practical nurse in hospitals and physicians’ offices and, for the last 22 years, at Rest Haven Homes senior living center in Grand Rapids until Parkinson’s disease caused her to retire.

A service of praise and thanksgiving was held on Aug. 28 at Northland Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Chris Weeks, Joyce’s son-in-law and pastor of Kent City Baptist Church, Kent City, Mich.; Ken Floyd, executive director of the Michigan Association of Regular Baptist Churches; and John Nixon, youth pastor of North Park Baptist Church, Grand Rapids.

Survivors include Joyce’s husband, Tom; their children, Michelle and Chris Weeks, and Sherilyn and Joel Shaffer; and eight grandchildren.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider an inner-city ministry led by her son-in-law and daughter: Urban Transformation Ministry, PO Box 2692, Grand Rapids, MI 49501.
