John Ruhlman IV, Pastor

MOUNT VERNON, Wash.—John Jay Ruhlman IV, a pastor and teacher for 55 years, died Aug. 9. He was 77.

John began ministering as a pastor in 1963, right after graduating from Western Baptist College (now Corban University). He planted Calvary Baptist Church, Hillsboro, Oregon, and served as its pastor until 1968. He then pastored Nooksack Valley Baptist Church, Everson, Washington, for 21 years. He led these two church through a total of six building programs, and in 1976 he wrote A History of Northwest Regular Baptists.

In 1990 John moved his family to Mount Vernon, Washington, and they began attending Emmanuel Baptist Church. There he taught a Bible class until 2017.

During each of his ministries, whether in Hillsboro, Everson, or Mount Vernon, he preached the gospel, taught the Bible, and loved people through happy times and hard times.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nancy; three children, Sheryl Rasmussen, John, and Bob; and eight grandchildren.
