CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa—What does it mean to be a spiritual leader? Men thought about this and similar questions at the fourth annual statewide Men’s Leadership Conference.

Blair Ridge Baptist Church of Cedar Rapids and Calvary Baptist Church of Mount Pleasant hosted the event on Feb. 23.

The conference began at 7:30 with fellowship and breakfast, followed by four sessions about various aspects of life. Speakers were Pastor Troy Weigert (Blair Ridge Baptist), on leadership; Pastor Will Hatfield (Crossroads Baptist Church, Ames), on dealing with shame; Pastor Mike Nemmers (First Baptist Church, Grundy Center), on forgiveness; and Pastor Mike Hess (Calvary Baptist), on leading by law versus grace.

This year’s conference was a break from the norm in that it featured four speakers, but many of the men commented that it was best one yet. Pastor Weigert says, “We are encouraged and motivated as we plan for 2014,” and hopes that even more men will attend next year.
