MORENO VALLEY, Calif.—Women in California enjoyed a Ladies’ Retreat at Victory Ranch Oct. 5 and 6. First Baptist Church of El Monte and Trinity Baptist of Pasadena worked together to plan the weekend for the 92 ladies representing 18 Regular Baptist churches. Faith Calvary Baptist of Los Angeles provided music.

Ladies started arriving Thursday night to avoid Friday traffic. The next two days were packed with activities: craft classes, a large silent auction with items the women had donated, archery, volleyball, horseback rides, and a chance to try firing a pistol, rifle, or shotgun. Free T-shirts specially made for the retreat reminded everyone of the theme: “Know Fear, Know God, Know Wisdom,” from Deuteronomy 10:12: “And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.”

Kathleen Thomson was the speaker for the three general sessions. By visiting Victory Ranch, Kathleen was returning to the summer camp where she had dedicated her life to God in junior high.

“The fear of the Lord is a proper understanding of the place that God holds in His universe,” said the mother of four, equating fear of the Lord to knowledge of Him. “It is the body of truth about God, and that truth starts with this: God is the first, ultimate, and only, infallible determiner of right and wrong. . . . Our response should be: ‘You are God, You are always right, You know best, therefore, You are the ultimate and sole determiner of right and wrong for me.’”

Kathleen is a former missionary and teacher of elementary through high school students; she is now administrative assistant in the Home Economics Department at the Master’s College, Santa Clarita, Calif. Her goal, she says, is to encourage women to victoriously live for Christ.

The next ladies’ retreat at the camp will be March 8 and 9, 2013.
